1. Rose Petal Picking Day

When that day in late June arrives we are all very excited—even though the mosquitoes can be almost unbearable, even though rose petal jelly looks prettier than it tastes—we are all very excited to pile into the truck, drive out to Bonanza Creek and meander along the roadside picking the bright pink petals.  Those of us that have been before warn the first-timers, “Don’t pick every flower, and don’t pick every petal on the flowers.   Be sure you leave some for the bees”.

We come home and make rose petal jelly and drink rose petal and spruce tip tea—-a very high source of vitamin C!
